Sagan-Man

by Jeff

Image text: They laugh now, but within 10 years the city's entire criminal class will have quit to work on space research.

Carl Sagan is an advocate for science, space and SETI (Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence).  He wrote the book, Contact, which was later made into the movie by the same name.

This comic is parodying Spiderman, in which Peter Parker is bitten by a radioactive spider to become Spiderman.  In this comic a radioactive Carl Sagan turns the person into "Sagan-Man".

  1. I agree with the analysis but I think that the comic also alludes to the power of the Science TV series Cosmos the Sagan pioneered. It was pretty much the first time people in the US heard we are born from stars; a truly groundbreaking and ego shattering comment. I believe that the Sagan man is able to stop thieves in their tracks by blowing their minds with scientific facts.

  2. Present tense seems a bit odd given that Sagan died back in 1996.

  3. why is it crazy when the SETI advocate says that we’ve been to the moon?
