Welcome to the explain xkcd wiki, and thanks for your willingness to help further our mission!

Adding a new comic explanation is very simple; just follow these simple steps:

For an old, unexplained comic:
1

Visit List of all comics and find the comic you want to explain. It should display as a red link on the table.

2

Click the "(create)" light blue link in the "title" column of List of all comics, fill in the information and save the page.

Note Don't forget to add all the required components:
fill the parameters of the {{comic}} template, add the explanation, and the transcript.
3

Click the red links for "number" and "title" in the "redirects" column of List of all comics, and create both pages with the code #REDIRECT [[XXX: Comic title]] (of course, substituting the relevant data)

For the latest xkcd comic:
1

Open http://xkcd.com and gather the data from the page. You will need:

  • The title of the comic
  • The comic image (save it to your computer)
  • The transcript of the comic (view the HTML source of the page to get it)
2

Edit List of all comics and add a new row to the top of the table, using the {{comicsrow}} template.

Note Make sure to use the same format as the other rows,
and click the "preview" button before saving the page,
to check that everything looks ok.
3

Click the red links in the "image" column and upload the file you downloaded in step #1

4

Click the "(create)" light blue link in the "title" column of List of all comics, fill in the information and save the page.

Note Don't forget to add all the required components:
fill the parameters of the {{comic}} template, add the explanation, and the transcript.
5

Click the red links for "number" and "title" in the "redirects" column of List of all comics, and create both pages with the code #REDIRECT [[XXX: Comic title]] (of course, substituting the relevant data)
