This comic is a play on the term "finding" in terms of particles. The actual usage would mean to discover or observe the particle. Instead, Cueball and Ponytail claim that they "lost" the Higgs Boson, so they need money to "find" it again.

Transcript

Voice Offscreen (VO): "Tell us about your proposal" Ponytail (PT): "We're requesting $3 billion in funding to find the Higgs boson."

VO: "...Wait. Didn't you already find it a year or two ago?" Cueball (CB): "Yes, well, um."

PT: "...OK. This is embarrassing" CB: "See, the thing is —"

VO: "Don't tell us you lsot it already." PT: "Look." "In our defense, it's really small."
