Blueshift and redshift occur in light when objects are moving toward or away from the observer. This is called the Doppler effect. In this comic, Cueball uses an election map as if it were a picture of a distant galaxy and supposes that the blue and red (signifying Democratic and Republican votes) in fact signify that the pictured area is rotating in space.&lt;br /&gt;
