== To a dearest friend, Mr. Munroe ==

Dear Mr. Munroe,

I write this message a few drinks down, so please bear with me. I will be sure to type carefully and review my entries, paying the utmost attention to the dreaded red squiggly, but in the end I guarantee nothing.

I want you to know that this is the closest thing I have ever come to with regards to writing a "celebrity". Personally I believe that you are more deserving of a fan letter than 99.874% of the Hollywood type of "celebs" (they can't spare any extra syllables, what with being so busy and all). That said, your "Time" comic somehow managed to motivate my lazy self to write this, because dammit I apparently care more than I thought I did.

I pulled up the comic like I eagerly do ever M/W/F (and Tue for What If), and I was intrigued, anticipatory, and a bit confused like I'm sure many fans were. I stared at the image for a good 5 minutes of my company's time waiting for a "gotcha" end to an animated GIF. When it didn't come, I immediately came here to see what the better informed geeks had to say. As soon as I read someone speculating that this comic had something to do with bad news, it immediately changed the view for me. I lost a partner to a non-cancer, non-infectious son-of-a-bi#ch condition which progressed along the lines of "Not right/sick/diagnosed/worse/re-diagnosed/better/crash/stabilized/correctly diagnosed/estimated time left/slow torture/surprising upturn/sudden end".

I say this because if this is a comic relating to hardship, then I send the most heartfelt of embraces across the IP stack to you and yours. If on the other hand this was simply another one of your great media-redefining comics then I would simply ask that next time the alt-text include something akin to a parenthetical "All is well".

I have been trying not to bawl my eyes out every half hour today, and my success rate has not been very good. If I could know that you are not suffering right now, I would like to think I would be better off. Then again, the converse of the previous "if" is none of my business. I can only say that if you are suffering right now, please know that I am but one of an unbelievable number who grieve with you.

TL:DR?
If this was just a cool, inspirational comic then I HATE YOU!!! (but not really)
If this was a cool, inspirational outlet for you in a time of hardship then I want to make sure you know how much joy your comics have given me, and how many thanks I have for you. No matter what, carry on good sir. You have an army of followers, which places you in the only "1%" that matters.

Kindest regards,

Andy C.
