Explanation
Ponytail, who was eager to see Wonder Woman 1984, the sequel to the acclaimed 2017 Wonder Woman (2017 film) film, decided to block all news media leading up to the film, to avoid Spoiler (media). This is a common practice for people who do not wish to be "spoiled" by reading or hearing any plot points of the film, and want to experience it for the "first time" when watching it. Many early reviewers may inadvertently give away key parts of the film, which may "ruin" the experience for some watchers.

However, there have been many delays for release of the film, in part because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The film was originally delayed from November 1, 2019 to June 5, 2020, and then was pushed to August 14, 2020, and October 2, 2020, before it was finally moved to December 25, 2020. The film studio announced a simultaneous release of the film in theaters and also on streaming platform HBO Max.

Absurdly, Ponytail did not turn off her news site blocker and so has not read any news for the past year. Because of this, she does not know who became the 2020 Democratic nominee, or who won the 2020 United States presidential election (both Joe Biden). Even more absurdly, she has not noticed others wearing masks, seen any Biden campaign signs, etc. It also seems that she does not know about the COVID-19 pandemic, as she seems confused as to why her movie is now being shown at a drive-in theater. Drive-in theaters have been seen as a much safer option than regular movie theaters during the pandemic.

Cueball tries to warn her about the ongoing pandemic, but in an effort to avoid spoilers, she refuses to listen to him. Cueball then tells her to wear a mask, but she is still confused. Ponytail says that she will dress up in costume as Wonder Woman, who is traditionally shown wearing a tiara, but not a mask (unlike Batman or many other comic characters).

The title text shows Ponytail’s even more remarkable historical imagination. According to Wikipedia, drive-in theaters were in fact in decline in the 80s due to the advent of cable TV, VCRs, and home video. Britney Spears was popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Hustle(dance) was a disco dance popular in the mid 1970s. Pogs under that name peaked in the mid-1990s. Elvis's appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show- one of the pivotal moments of American pop culture- occurred on September 9, 1956. Cueball points out this mess of inconsistencies by asking Ponytail when she was born, referring to the idea that she would subconsciously combine all these time periods because she didn't live through them, and only knows about them through pop culture.

This comic is similar to 2280: 2010 and 2020, which features someone who also is unaware of the COVID-19 pandemic.
A list of what Randall perceives will be the prettiest presidential middle names after the inauguration on January 20, 2021. Joe Biden (46th president-elect) will take the second slot bumping previous second-place holder Franklin D. Roosevelt, the 32nd president, back to third. Warren G. Harding, the 29th president, remains in first. Robinette is Biden's grandmother's maiden name.

The title text announces that Rutherford B. Hayes, the 19th president, remains at or near the bottom.

Overall, the ranking would not include every president, as many early presidents, such as George Washington and John Adams, lacked middle names. Some presidents were also more commonly known by their middle names as opposed to their first names; examples include Hiram Ulysses Grant, Stephen Grover Cleveland, and Thomas Woodrow Wilson. It is unclear how Randall’s list would deal with these cases.

The humour is based around the misuse of an abstract descriptive subjective variable (prettiness) as an ordinal discrete variable scale.
Cueball is reciting a mnemonic device to try and remember how many days there are in a specific month -- this month, it's October. However, Cueball isn't paying attention to the poem and gets distracted, since the specific word "October" isn't in the poem, so he recites it again, leading his scatterbrained... brain into a loop.
This strip plays on certain experiments involving human subjects. Ponytail is discussing Megan's experiment's fallacies. She mentions that several control group members in an experiment had been arrested with arson; this is troubling, as the control group would not be expected to have such a high rate of incidence, while if the trend had occurred in the experimental group the drug could be identified as the cause of the arson, due to unexpected side effects. The next panel alludes to the prisoner's dilemma, while the last panel mentions the Milgram experiment. In both cases, the subjects are shown to likely by sociopathic or psychopathic.
This type of generalization also has a special name called "Stereotype threat". Research shows that women/girls who are good at math (identify as good at math) will do worse on hard math questions when they think (consciously or unconsciously) that her own personal failings will reflect on the negative stereotype. :Whitelisting isn't short form for anything, it just means that you allow certain sites to pass through your adblocker. That image that you're seeing means that we don't have any advertisers running ads in your region currently, and clicking it will just tell you how you can advertise with us. ==Full Disclosure on Lunarpages Ads==
We should probably explain the Lunarpages ad, because an awful lot of our users really hate ads. Lunarpages is our new host, and they offered to give us dedicated scalable server space with unlimited bandwidth for free in return for a .jpg banner ad on our sidebar. That's a pretty big deal, because it shaves off about $700 of yearly fees, plus potentially unlimited overage charges with their standard bandwidth limit. If comic number 1190 had happened and we were on that bandwidth cap, we would have had to fork out up to $600 per month, which would make this wiki very costly to maintain indeed. By going with this ad deal, we can eliminate all unpredictable costs, allowing us to use our Project Wonderful ad money to pay for webpage caching/CDN services and buy ad space on other websites to spread the joy. With no ads, all of the above would put a ~$2000-3000 dent in our pockets per year. With ads earning at their current rate, we can very comfortably pursue things like our current dedicated hosting or cloudflare to make the site faster without actually having to pay out our own money or beg users for donations. Our ads are small in terms of file size, and they only take up space in the sidebar that Mediawiki would have otherwise left blank. That's not much to pay for substantially faster server hardware and essentially free advertising. == Animated ads ==

Hello, I just wanted to say that the current ad banner displayed in Europe would be somewhat annoying enough for me to reactivate my ad blocker. Now I gave it a bit of extra tolerance because of its hyper-relevant topic (and in a way I was happy to be informed of the Bobcatinabox project), but I think this banner is getting too animated and distracts too much when reading the website's content. The first form this ad took was that static image, which I prefer a lot and by the way got my interest enough to click on.

I find the message displayed when using an ad blocker ("It seems you are using noscript,...") sincerely convincing, especially the part saying "our ads are restricted to unobtrusive images and slow animated GIFs." It made me immediately disable mine when that message appeared some time ago, and since then I've been okay with static or quietly animated banners; but basically my point is that animated ads like this one could drive users, frustrated from the distracting effect, to activate their ad blocker.

So maybe the ad banners moderation should require less animation? I'm of course interested in any other view on the matter.

I believe I can explain why the e-mail, SMS and Internet areas of the map are surrounded by the "Spoken Language" country. Yes, SMS, e-mail and most of the Internet are "written", but they're more of a "written spoken language", sharing many traits with informal spoken language. Maybe Wikipedia articles and blog posts can be classified as "standard written texts", but most other forms of electronically-mediated communication bare more resemblance to the way we speak: forums, chatrooms, Facebook posts, SMS texts, the usage of acronyms and smiley faces, etc. It's a widely researched phenomenon, and it continues to be a topic in the fields of linguistics, psychology, sociology and education (literacy attainment). As an aspiring linguist myself, I smiled when I noticed that these so-called "written" forms were next to spoken language :) 108.162.215.10 22:16, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
Hmmm. The animation just added agrees with another animation I've seen, in that the three innermost moons never line up all on one side of Jupiter at the same time. So if "Hi" (Io) and "What's your name" (Europa) conjoin on the right side as we're looking, then "What's your name" and "MOOOON!" (Ganymede) should conjoin on the left side. Not that I'm being critical of course...
Even with the resonance, "MOOOOOON!" appears still not to have been able to escape with that effect alone until Cueball's own close approach to Megan brought his own gravity well close enough to hers to give rise to a viable transfer orbit. And appears to be now retrograde, relative to its last orbit. Or possibly on a free-return path, unless Cueball steps back before the return transfer happens or makes an appropriate sideways move to quash the orbital potential. == Animation is incorrect ==

The current animation has the wrong speed of the outermost moon, which is currently orbiting at a 5:1 ratio to the innermost. They should all line up along a vertical line once every four rotations. In fact the current animation never lines up all three moons at the same time (at least, not on the same side of the planet). -Greg
108.162.215.10 16:06, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
:The animation is correct. If you look closely at only Europa and Ganymede, you'll see that they are also in a 2:1 resonance, with conjunctions always taking place at the "6 o'clock" position. Io and Ganymede are in a 4:1 resonance, with conjunctions taking place at 12 o'clock, 4 o'clock, and 8 o'clock. The comic is incorrect in having all three moons on the same side of Jupiter at the same time. That never happens in the actual system, though I don't mind it in the name of artistic license. --BlueMoonlet (talk) 17:27, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

If the inner moons are tidally locked with Jupiter, can you ostensibly state that they're mooning the outer moons, whenever two such moons line up? lol 108.162.222.209 08:57, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
:Hang on... "MOOOOOON!" isn't the "Ugh/So annoying/Almost/Yes!" one. Forgot to note the hint of shading. Still, the above applies to the disgusted/elated moon, clearly not liking either of the Valley Girls or the loudmouth Jock. Am I the only one thinking that the "MOOOOOON!" is a reference to the "SPAAAAACE!" module from portal 2?
Maybe moons converse with Cueball, not between them itself?
Animation is incorrect
The current animation has the wrong speed of the outermost moon, which is currently orbiting at a 5:1 ratio to the innermost. They should all line up along a vertical line once every four rotations. In fact the current animation never lines up all three moons at the same time (at least, not on the same side of the planet). -Greg
