		+	There is a traffic light near my house that I've sat for ten minutes at once in the "straight or left turn" lane. I tried being patient, but seeing left-right traffic go, then oncoming, then left-right, then oncoming... I don't regret backing up, moving to the right right turn lane, then finding a gas station to turn around in down the road. The road I was on wasn't used often, but I really should be able to "go forward or yield left" as often as the oncoming traffic could!  :I am a traffic engineer, and there are lots of reasons why intersections are designed as they are, and lots of reasons why they don't live up to expectations. Aside from the inherent difficulty of predicting traffic, there are issues centring around when the intersection was designed and when the user experiences it (this can be decades), the availability of data on the subject (in all but the densest/busiest areas most people would be surprised how little data there is, I think), and just the sheer expense of some "simple" solutions.
