It is very important to note that a null hypothesis is a specific statement relative to the current study. In mathematics, we often see terms such as "the Riemann hypothesis" or "the continuum hypothesis" that refer to universal statements, but a null hypothesis depends on context. There is no  one "''the'' null hypothesis." It refers to a method of statistical analysis (and {{w|falsifiability}}, not a ''specific'' hypothesis). Given that, [[Megan]]'s response would probably be to facepalm.

The comic may also be referring to the way fundamentalist Christians treat {{w|the theory of evolution}}. In this case, said theory is still being taught widely at the time of this edit. There ARE several studies that counteract its points (for example, how gradual mutations can actually harm an animal instead of aiding the animal, or again, how a million-year-old Sun would have swallowed into Earth's orbit, since the Sun shrinks a bit each year). The reference to the way grade-school teachers disproved the null hypothesis could be referring to school projects made that can describe how the Bible is rather plausible (for example, how floodwaters could bring underwater animals to the top of mountains), or again, how simple facts (for example, the law of entropy) can be taught to teach the children the logical flaws of the theory of evolution).
