Food is often a subject in xkcd , and recently (around 2015-2016) the frequency seems to have increased enough to make this category relevant. (For instance when this category were created in February 2016, two comics in the same week had been about salt and sugar).

Often these comics about food becomes the most discussed because peoples opinions regarding food makes this a subject of much debate. Actually at the time after the release of 388: Fuck Grapefruit, according to the Blag post: FRUIT OPINIONS!, this was the most controversial comic written to this point.
