On Wikipedia the used word is news presenter, but all the other points there. Randall has used the phrasing “news anchor” directly in 1086: Eyelash Wish Log, news caster in 727: Trade Expert and just reporters in 1368: One Of The. But at the time of this category’s creation all comics with a news anchor has already been corrected to use that version, so thus this name has been chosen.

Several different characters have represented such a news anchor, but Blondie is by far the most used for this task compared to how often she is used in general. She even tied Cueball with 6 appearances at the time this category was created (after comic 1731). This was because especially in the three comics with news anchors just before this category was created she was the one that was used.

This category was partly started because of 1699: Local News based on this community portal discussion. Hairy and Ponytail have been presented twice, and in one comic, 1086: Eyelash Wish Log, the term News Anchor has just been mentioned by Black Hat.

After the creation of the category Cueball and Blondie shared a comic as two types of presenters in 1985: Meteorologist, taking them both to seven, but with 2080: Cohort and Age Effects Cueball surpassed her once again with eight. But at that time Cueball had been in 1305 comics vs. Blondie's only 32! In the fall of 2019 they once again became ties with 8 each after she was the presenter in 2201: Foucault Pendulum, and in May 2020 she once again surpassed Cueball with 2304: Preprint.

Another version of a news report could be with a reporter, reporting form the scene. Examples of comics only with reporters can be listed here for reference:

A news anchor, also known as news presenter, is a person who presents news during a news program for instance on television. Below is a list with all comics where a news anchor is either shown speaking on the news or where "news anchor" is explicitly mentioned in xkcd. Click to expand for a more detailed explanation:

Explanation[edit]

On Wikipedia the primary term used is "wikipedia:News presenter", but various others redirect there. Randall has used the phrasing "news anchor" directly in 1086: Eyelash Wish Log, "news caster" in 727: Trade Expert and just "reporters" in 1368: One Of The. Another version of a news report could be with a reporter, reporting from the scene. Although that has been seen in some of these comics below, it is always with a news anchor talking to the reporter from the studio, otherwise it would not belong in this category. Blondie, together with Cueball, is one of the most used character for presenting news reports.
