:::Well, actually, "uisce/uisge" just means "water." The name comes from "uisge/uisce beatha" = "water of life" but they dropped the "life" part in English usage. Also, medieval Latinists gave the name "aqua vitae" to just about any distilled concentrated ethanol product.
