He's doubtless talking about the Pilot Wave interpretation of quantum mechanics [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pilot_wave]] -- which is controversial but still mainstream, not crackpot gibberish; it was proposed/championed by the illustrious Boehm and Bell.
