Time-animated

Hullo. Now that time is over, could you do one last, complete version of the animated gif? Thanks! Davidy²²[talk] 15:07, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

About the animated Time GIF, I actually prepared one right away at the end, but I haven't been able to get it to upload here, even though it's rather less than the stated size limit, 12 MB out of I think 40 MB. If anyone can suggest what might be going on, I'll be happy to try it out. I did ask in the XKCD forum, but didn't get any help there. Just in case it was a temporary thing, I'll go give it a shot here again after I post this. Wouldn't want to save face or anything if it actually works all of a sudden, after all.—KarMann (talk) 20:04, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

Maybe it should be divided into some parts, matching the scenes from the explain section. But then we need a navigation bar (next scene, previous scene, select scene), it's some advanced mediawiki edit but it should be possible. Let me know.--Dgbrt (talk) 20:41, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
Hrm. Could you put up an external download link? I'll try uploading it. In the meantime, I'll get Jeff to bump the file size limit for a few days. Davidy²²[talk] 23:55, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
Sure thing. time-animated.gif (I should say, it's actually missing two of the last three repeating frames. But I'm not going to bother fixing it until I can upload it.)
FWIW, what happens is that things seem to be going normally, I select the file, do the summary, click "Upload file", and then I even get a burst of upload traffic right then, like it's certainly trying to send it. Then suddenly I'm back at the upload page, instead of returning to the File:time-animated.gif page as I seem to remember it doing before.—KarMann (talk) 00:54, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
A number in a config file is set too low and the server is blocking large files being sent to it. A request has been put in to the owner of the shared server, and we should have a window of time where we can upload the gif in its entirety. I'll update you when it opens up. Lemme guess, something like upload_max_filesize in php.ini, which places a limit in addition to one set by the MediaWiki settings, 2 MB default on my current system? Or maybe even post_max_size? I think I've bumped into that somewhere before, now that I think about it. I remember having to edit one of those at some point.—KarMann (talk) 02:31, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
After buying our own server share and finagling forever for shell access, it's finally done. You should be able to upload the final gif now. Complete thine divine task, enlightened one. Davidy²²[talk] 02:11, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
