Usage

This template is compatible with dark mode.

• In standard use, supply a short reason: {{incomplete|The title text isn't explained}}. The template works without a reason too, but providing one is good practice.
• If the page is transcluded into another page, specify the target with |target= so the edit link is correct. Especially for the latest comic: {{incomplete|reason|target=3049: Incoming Asteroid}}.
• This template automatically adds the page and any pages it is transcluded into to Category:Incomplete explanations, except in Template namespace.
• A running joke on this wiki: when a page is created by a bot it adds {{incomplete|CREATED BY A BOT}}, which editors typically change to {{incomplete|CREATED BY [something related to the comic]}}.

This Week's Explanation for Improvement mode

When an explanation has been nominated through the Explanation Improvement Project and still needs work, add |twefi= alongside the standard parameters:

• |twefi=yes — the nomination was successful; links to explain xkcd:Explanation Improvement Project/Successful nominations
• |twefi=no — the nomination was unsuccessful; links to explain xkcd:Explanation Improvement Project/Unsuccessful nominations
• |date=August 2026 — month and year of the nomination
• |1 through |10 — up to ten iconed improvement suggestions, compatible with {{This Week's Explanation for Improvement banner}}
• |noicons=yes or |prose=yes — displays |1 as a prose block instead of iconed bullets
