[[xkcd]] usually only posts a new comic every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, as the standard [[Header text|header text]] says. However, for several reasons, comics have been posted on all weekdays. In the [[LiveJournal|early days of xkcd]] it happened frequently, but it has become very rare [[LiveJournal#Comics_only_posted_on_xkcd.com|since LiveJournal closed]]. Notable exceptions that can lead to off-set release dates, even in the weekend, are [[April Fools' Day comics]], which Randall always tries to publish on {{w|April Fools' Day}}, [[:Category:Books|book releases]], which often fall on a Tuesday, and [[:Category:Tribute|tributes]] to important people who recently passed away. The other weekdays are typically used in [[:Category:Comic_series|comic series]], which sometime extend for five days in one week.<noinclude>

Note that [[:Category:Extra comics|extra comics]] aren't included in these categories.
