|Because early FAT file systems allowed only 8 characters in the filename, users often shortened names by removing the vowels.  This ostensibly kept the file names readable, but under the 8-character limit.  In practice, filenames without vowels were often misunderstood. Also, several programs (more so in the past) break when attempting to read from/write to files with spaces or reserved characters/non ASCII characters on their name.
