Template talk:explain

Explain xkcd: It's 'cause you're dumb.

I don't understand

Why does this template exist? At what point did linking to a page in a wiki become hard? Was there originally a reason for this to exist? I can't personally rationalize how {{explain|968}} (which is 15 characters) would be any better than [[968]] (which is a mere 7). Or, what's worse, {{explain|968|Saying something more}} as opposed to [[968|Saying something more]]. This seems like it adds more computation time to generate each page that uses the template by making the software look up the template name, parse it, drop the link in, and transclude it.

I vote that this template be deleted, or at least that every page using it be modified to use intra-wiki links.

Sounds reasonable to me, even 10 years after you wrote it. While False (speak) 13:59, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
