Ok, so I actually checked, and 673: The Sun is from *2009*, two years later than *Sunshine (2007)*.

And (apart from the whole obvious "that sort of over the top SF-/Disaster-Movie vibe") the mentioning of The Core is only *in the comic Explanation*, it doesn't really look like it had anything like the direct The Core reference (from six years before for comic), compared to those to the Suunshine film (from two years before the comic).

In fact, I also have doubts that comic 673 should be in this category. If it should, rewrite the chronology above in the "The first comic..." as you uncomment it again. If not, this should probably just be wiped out. And re-edit 673 to skip all The Core assumption and just go straight it being a Sunshine reference.

I also have doubts that the words "The Core" mentioned in 2877: Fever is at all relevant to this category (it's a star's core that's mentioned with the words "The Core", no obvious link there...). If it's the tunnelling machine bit that is relevent then other comics, such as 3145: Piercing, might be at least as referential.

But at least 2011, 2075, 2858 and 3182 definitely have direct "The Core (2003)" references. Haven't fully checked Escape Speed (or my own memories of it) to work out how directly-referential that was (something deep in the Subway World?)

The Core is a 2003 American science fiction disaster film that focuses on a team whose mission is to drill to the center of the Earth and set off a series of nuclear explosions in order to restart the rotation of the Earth's core.

The mission is only possible, in the film, because of the development of "Unobtainium", a material that can convert extreme heat into electricity that in turn keeps the drilling craft intact, and moving, within the extreme environment and powers a laser drilling array at the head of the craft. It is only with these improbable developments that this mission is possible. In reality, getting into the Earth's core is considered more difficult than getting to the surface of the Sun. (Which is in reality more difficult, even, than reaching Pluto!)

Randall has now expressed mockery, and ridiculed the movie, in several comics, and made reference to it a number of times. The sixth comic to reference it, 2877: Fever, prompted the creation of this category.

It is widely considered a contender for "all-time-worst 'science in a movie' winner" so it is not only Randall that has an issue with this!
