ngram charts
| ngram charts |
| Some of the interesting charts I've come across while using Google Books ngrams (which analyzes the frequency of word use in their scanned books corpus over time): |
Title text: none |
Explanation
|
This is not a comic, but a webpage on xkcd.com There are many other similar xkcd webpages, some of which are explained here. Explain xkcd is trying to decide how they should be treated. You are welcome to help us decide how we should categorise, call, or present these kinds of explanations. Kindly leave a comment here. This page should not be categorized until we decide how to explain these non-comics (see discussion above). |
Randall has listed some ngrams from the Google Books Ngram Viewer. Unfortunately, they are no longer available. Fortunately, all that is needed to fix them is to change the url from "chart" to "graph".
Here's the list:
the Great War,the World War,World War I
Leviticus 18,turn the other cheek [this link has had (cherry-picking) appended to it for... some reason]
irregardless,regardlessly,unregarding
a bird in the hand, live by the sword, look before you leap,a penny saved
Muslim,Moslem,Moslim,Mussulman,Moslam
merry Christmas,happy holidays
telechart,telephone,telegram,television,radio,internet
hundred,thousand,million,billion,trillion
jillion,zillion,bazillion,kazillion
