The comics are listed in the order they came out on LiveJournal, which differs significantly from their numbering on xkcd.com. For more information, see LiveJournal.

The very first 13 xkcd comics were posted on the original "xkcd_drawings" LiveJournal account within 12 minutes on September 30, 2005, the day the account was created. The first comic posted on that day was 7: Girl sleeping (Sketch -- 11th grade Spanish class) and the last one was 11: Barrel - Part 2. Starting from the following post, he began following the normal Monday, Wednesday, Friday release date routine, although he sometimes forgot to post the comic in time, making them come out a day earlier or a day later. See Comics by weekday for more information. Some of these comics were drawn on checkered paper, but the practice stopped once he started posting regularly on xkcd.com.
